Here we have possibly the best Sweet Pea ever made? A big statement indeed! The eagle eyed among you will no doubt spot the subtle addition of an extra pair of driving wheels amongst many other tweaks and modifications. Technically this is a stretched Sweet Pea, rather than a 'Metre Maid', which makes for a very imposing and well balanced machine. The machining is done to a really high standard by a capable model engineer, and everything is nicely tight and crisp.
Fitted with an injector, an axle water pump (complete with plenum chamber) and footplate mounted bypass valve and of course a hand pump in the tender. Lubrication is mechanical with a decent reservoir under the front running boards and there are neat little plugs in the valve chest covers for over winter oiling. The longer boiler is silver soldered copper and comes with all the original paperwork as well as a fresh hydraulic and steam test so you can be confident all is also well there. There's even a milometer in a nice box on the side and valances on the running boards!
All in all a really nicely detailed, beautifully made locomotive, and a cracking example of what you can build around the Sweet Pea platform with a bit of skill and imagination!
As with most of our models, what you see isn't necessarily what you get! We often photograph models pretty much as they come in to us, and then when someone phones to say they are interested we pull the model into our workshops and make sure everything is tested, sorted and ready to go. So if you see the odd model photograph with a fitting missing or a return crank in the wrong place, that's just how it came in and certainly not how it will leave.
